On completing his studies he was sucked into teaching, mostly architecture, but also art, graphics, design, research methods, and cybernetics, at Cambridge University, the Architectural Association, University College London, and the University of Portsmouth. He has helped supervise doctorates at a number of other universities, been visiting professor, lecturer, and critic on six of the world’s seven continents, and in a wide range of subjects. He is an adjunct professor at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, and reader at the Bartlett, University College London. He gained two doctorates: the first (with Gordon Pask) in Cybernetics; the second (with Laurie Thomas) in Human Learning, has over 200 publications, is on the editorial board of several journals and the committee of more conferences.
